As I announced last Sunday at St. John’s Masses, we are happy to finally accept an offer for the sale of the property across the street from the church. It will be sold for $750,000.00 to A. J. Spiegel. There were others whose bids were less. We are grateful for their interest. We are also thankful to our parish realtors, Ken Kress, Barb Hermsen & Sheri Greenwood. They put in a lot of time and effort to get the property sold. Most of their behind the scenes work went unnoticed, but it was a tremendous effort. A big thank you to our parish council for their extra meetings and unanimous approval. We were all hoping that the eight acres would bring a higher price. But given the length of time the property has been on the market, it appears we did sell it for its market price.
We are happy to sell to Mr. Spiegel especially since he donated 15 acres for the new school. Also, A.J. will do a good job of developing the land and make Peosta an even better place to live, and he will continue to work with NICC. All these are positives that we can be thankful for.
The time schedule for this transaction and many contingencies are still being worked out. The proceeds will be payable to St. John’s. The parish will then issue a check to the Seton Capital Campaign as previously approved. Building may then proceed! Thanks be to God!
