St. John’s Parish is sponsoring a blood donation day Monday , June 25, 2012 from 3:00 pm-7.00 pm in Shannon Hall. Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is the non-profit agency that supplies the blood to local hospitals. Sign-ups will be taken before and after all weekend masses starting Saturday June 9th or call Ann and Bill Jantsch for an appointment at 583-3182. Sixteen year olds can donate with a parental permission form. Last previous giving day is April 30. Bring ID and eat within four hours of donating.

Saving Lives

Each donation—one pint of blood—is enough to save as many as three lives when the whole blood is separated into red cells, platelets and plasma. Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood and more than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day.

The Mississippi Valley Blood Center is very appreciative of those who make time to donate during the busy summer. Only 3 percent of the U.S. population currently donates blood, and donations are on the decline as blood products are being distributed to hospitals as quickly as donations are coming in.

Thank you for considering giving blood again or for the first time.
